Pop Up – Pop Under Advertising   Leave a comment

Get 100,000 visitors to your site right now for only $30! Does this ad look familiar to you? If you’ve spent any time at all researching ways to advertise your site on the Internet, you’ve no doubt stumbled across these types of ads many times now. So how do these advertisers actually get 100,000 visitors to your site for only $30?
Well, the answer in most cases is through the use of pop-up and pop-under advertising.

What is pop-up and pop-under advertising?

Glad you asked. Do you recall all the times you’ve been on sites and had a little browser window pop-up overtop of the site you were looking at and display an ad to you? I’m sure you have. Do you remember what your trained response was to those ads? The truth is you might not even remember responding to most those ads because, like most people, you probably have yourself subconsciously trained to instantly exit out of one of these windows as soon as they appear on your screen.

The same is true of pop-under advertising, which is the same concept except the ad pops up underneath your currently opened browser window. This way, the ad doesn’t interrupt you and distract you immediately and you instead see the ad after you minimize or exit the current browser window. In theory, pop-under ads seem better and possibly even an effective way of advertising, but in reality most people still notice the ads being launched underneath their browser and click the browser ad in their taskbar to exit out of them in the same instant they appear.

Due to the subconsciously trained mind of the typical net citizen, pop-up and pop-under advertising have been ruled next to useless for the average Joe advertiser.
Don’t get me wrong, pop-up and pop-under advertising do have their use, but here is what they are useful for…

BRANDING AND LEAD CAPTURING!

Yup, that’s it. If you are considering using pop-up and pop-under advertising for any other purpose, you might as well flush your money down the toilet now.
The reason they are good for branding is because even though the response rate is not very good for pop advertising, in most cases the person still sees the ad while exiting it. Over time, a company can use pop-ups and pop-under as an effective way to make their brand known and brand their name and company image on the mind of Internet users everywhere.

The reason pop-ups and pop-under ads are good for lead capturing is because in lead capturing you are offering something of value to the person for free. If you make this message attention getting so it grabs the user and captures their attention before they exit the window, you may be able get a few of them to enter their name and email address and possibly more information in order to receive whatever you are offering.

If you attempt to use pop-up and pop-under advertising in any other way than for branding and lead capturing, then I’m afraid you are most likely not going to be very happy with the results. In my experience, it is next to impossible to close a sale using pop advertising (I’m talking a .000001% response rate if you are lucky). But by using it to capture leads, you may find the response rate to be just high enough that it is worth the investment.

However, if you are going to try and utilize pop-up and pop-under advertising for branding or lead capturing, here are a few guidelines to use when deciding who to purchase your advertising from…

1) Quality is better than Quantity! Try and find yourself pop-up and pop-under advertising that’s targeted to websites with visitors of related interest to your offer and are from a country that can speak the language your ad is in. As always, you will see a much higher response when you advertise to pre-qualified prospects.

2) Preferably, look for pop advertisers that offer a guarantee that they won’t count hits to your site unless the visitors stays at your site for at least a predefined number of seconds, like 20 seconds for example.

3) Don’t purchase pop advertising from a site that looks like it was created by a child and does not have much information (such as contact and support information).

4) If the website says that pop-up and pop-under advertising is the absolute best way ever to promote any product or service, remind yourself that they are lying to you and probably not a trusted source.

Lastly, pop-up and pop-under ads can serve another very lucrative way of advertising. This way has to do with installing pop-up and pop-under ads on your own site. If you have your own web site advertising Your LCW or another product or service, you will likely desire to at least capture the email address of those who visit your site so you can follow up with them.

You can utilize pop ads to enable this process by having a pop-up ad appear at the entry and exit of your web site. This pop-up ad will be a small window that offers something of value for free or invokes the curiosity of the visitor and asks them for their name and email address to receive the prize or get their secret. By enabling pop-up ads upon the entry and exit of your site, and having the same lead capturing offer integrated into your site, you can greatly increase the chance that you will at least be able to capture a good percentage of your site visitors as leads to follow up with through an auto-responder system.

In my opinion, integrating lead capturing as part of your advertising efforts is not an option, but a crucial element to your success.
